Why make it so hard to scan a receipt?

It used to be easy to scan In a receipt you used to simply touch the barcode next to the search bar and WA-la it was ready to scan your receipt or bar code. Now it dont want to scan your receipt into the database? Why make it harder? Was Walmart loosing too much money ad matching competitors?
